A strong Brittany road trip starts before you reach France. Your UK departure port, French arrival port and first overnight base should work as one decision. From there, build a route around two or three clusters rather than collecting destinations like checkpoints.
ROUTE 1
Saint-Malo, Dinan and the north coast
This is one of the easiest first Brittany road trips from the UK because Saint-Malo can be both arrival point and destination. Add Dinan, the Emerald Coast and one further coastal base rather than driving deep into the west immediately.
ROUTE 2
Roscoff and western Brittany
Arriving through Roscoff works well for travellers heading into Finistère, the Pink Granite Coast or further west. It reduces the amount of French motorway-style transit and gets you into the character of Brittany quickly.
ROUTE 3
Carnac, Vannes and southern Brittany
Southern Brittany rewards a slower base-led trip. Carnac and Vannes work well together, with easy access to beaches, the Gulf of Morbihan, markets and island trips.
